My crochet projects

Ok, let mi list down my half finished projects :

1. blue vest - finished 1/4 of it. tink it looks awful. undo!
2. brown poncho - finished halfway but i dun really like the look of it now. tink i'll undo & redo most of tis too
3. pink dress / skirt - well, tis started out as a pink blanket & i've got quite a big chunk of it finished. but i was at a loss wat to do wif it coz my ger doesn't seem to need a blanket. decided to make it into a skirt instead & mayb a dress too. it'll evolve as i continue.
4. grey dress - meh, tis started out as a dress. now i feel it's much too long. luckily not much has been done so i can still undo.

i typically do & undo & redo my projects several times before i'm satisfied.

but the moral of the story is "it's better to admit ur mistake & try again den to carry on doggedly." in the end, the finished work is juz a waste of time & energy.

of course, it also reflects how ppl evolve & change constantly so our projects / relationships in life need to keep up too or it'll become redundant.

it makes more sense to channel my energy in projects / relationships i'm happy abt.

What I intend to do today

tis is juz mi going on & on abt wat i intend to do today. quite no-brainer. haha

need to go out & buy brown rice for my ger later. running low on supplies. left onli the last can liao. tink i really should go JB & stock up. juz across the causeway, can get cans tat are double in size & yet cheaper.

will b trying to catch the first 18 episodes of LOST. wah! lost marathon. tink it'll kill mi. oredi quite tired from getting up early tdy to pray. hope i dun concuss & get LOST mentally from watching. but THANK YOU SHU'EN for lending mi the dvd :P

i still haf a few half finished crochet projects tat i really should wrap up. it's juz tat i get so LOST after crocheting 1 ball of yarn tat i duno wat i'm trying to crochet sometimes. tink i should stick to small projects. gemini are the worst. i haf little determination yet too much creativity & zest at starting new projects. i love doing 10 things concurrently.

later in the evening, i'll be going to eunos wif my mum for a 超度 session for my dad. den i muz remember to come back in time for my vampire show. oredi missed it last wk.

Grieving

Juz came back from yishun columbarium for my dad's 100th day prayers. tdy's the 99th day since my dad's demise.

time flies. for the living, we grieve but life goes on. grieving doesn't stop after a specific event or timespan. i am amazed by children's resilience & rate of recovery. my son was wif us at my dad's death bed. he cried & grieved wif us. but a couple of hrs later, when i started to cry again, he told me "Mummy, stop crying. U cried a lot juz now"

during the wake, he was very upbeat & cheerful. he asked to see 公公 repeatedly as the coffin has a "window". he wasn't afraid at all & slept by the side of coffin.

as we burnt joss paper, he suddenly told mi, "mummy, u lied. 公公 is not in heaven. he's still here." with tat, he pointed at the coffin. i tried explaining tat 公公 will be cremated after the wake & he'll be gone for good. i guess my explanation was lousy coz he concluded,"so the 公公 in heaven is real & the 公公 in the coffin is fake." i love him for his candidness but i really haf no answer to his questions.

is there an afterlife? i can onli hope so. how can anyone noe for sure? but still, we muz gif the dead the benefit of the doubt. i do hope there's afterlife & my dad is happy wherever he is now. hopefully, he is in a better place.

believing in the afterlife also gifs us an opportunity to continue show our filial piety by preparing offerings & burning joss paper. i always feel tat all the praying we do is more to let the living feel better. the actual benefit to the dead is anybody's guess.

wat i find useful,is not to tink abt all the things & places my dad didn't do or go.
i tell my mum tat we should be glad he had tasted food tat he liked, done what he wanted to do & been to places he wanted to go to.

now my dad is quite the seasoned traveller & he used to travel & work overseas in Brunei, HK & on ships in his single days. my mum is quite the opposite. she never wants to go anywhere unless we force her to go. i never realised how much my mum loves my dad until i see her grieving & doing everything she can for all the prayers. maybe being asians, it's difficult for us to show affection so we can onli express it thru our concern for the well being of our loved ones. hopefully it's never too late to tell someone u love him/her.

the story of my life continues but i noe my dad is watching over mi & his love for mi doesn't stop. i'm juz very glad tat i realised the pain & 无奈 of 树欲停但风不止，子欲养而亲不在 a few yrs back so i've spent some quality time wif my parents.

Postsecret

came across postsecret when i was blog surfing. tis site is cool. it's abt tis community art project tat has ppl sending in self made postcards wif their secrets.

i tink it's a great idea & has therapetic value. sometimes the weight of secrets upon your chest can be stiffling & too much to bear.

being able to articulate your skeletons in the closet & putting it down in print is a form of release. not everyone has the good fortune to haf ppl they can trust enuff to unload their emotional burden upon. sounds like confession, yah?

hehe, juz dug out tis jacket tat i got from hk 5 yrs ago.
beli thick leh. feels quite comfy & of course looks nice lah, but i scared too 夸张!






if the weather not cold enuff, i tink my jeans jacket will be sufficient. and i love my jeans jacket very much. perfect for plane rides. looks cool & i'm totally at ease in it.

J bar

after din, we headed to J bar for drinks.

beer was cheap. $30 for bucket of 5 bottles but i dun really fancy Heineken. YT and HQ had lychee martinis

shu'en has found his niche. he can apply for a job to sing there. he sang very well & noes all the songs. but HQ wants songs from another era...hehe

MakanSutra Glutton's Bay

Dinner on fri nite was at MakanSutra Glutton's Bay. Food was good but queues were pretty long & better to go in a group so can assign ppl to different queues for 炒馃条, hokkien mee and or luak.


funny anecdocts from the nite :

• shu'en finished his drink & was very thirsty. he made a comment tat he wants to drink sea water. wif a poker straight face, HQ went 海水比买水远. ( Roars of laugher from YT, Shu'en and mi ) Shu'en said it's 遗传 coz he oredi so 废话 but HQ still can make jokes...sigh!
• we felt a few raindrops intermittenly. finally we concluded tat it will really rain. i said ok, start singing. in unison, YT, Shu'en & HQ started singing "Raindrops keep falling on my head". the patrons at the next table couldn't hold back their smiles.
• Shu'en is very violent! He put the last chicken satay in his mouth & did a quick twist & pull to take out the stick. To our astonishment, the stick he pulled out was only half in length! The satay stick had broken in half!! While we gers roared wif laughter, he tried pulling out the stick from his mouth. The stick actualli broke into several small pieces. He said he wants to sue the satay stall for satay sticks of inferior quality and attempted murder.

Our dinner! Yummy! Yummy! we decided we need to do the feast at 85 soon!

Frens

had lunch wif yen nee tdy. it's been a while since the pair of us sat down & tok. i noe there're times when it is more difficult to tell ppl u noe abt ur troubles den to tell someone u hardly noe.

trust mi, i've been there, on serveral occasions. of course there's the most recent episode going on in my life.


but most importantly, frens should be understanding and forgiving. keeping things to myself doesn't mean i dun trust my closest frens. it's juz difficult to articulate wat u're going thru in an objective & unemotional manner. when i'm ready to share, it'll b when i want ppl to rally ard mi & accompanied by lotsa tears & heartache. of course, tat's when i really get the load off my chest. thanks HQ & YT for being so understanding & supportive! the closer u r to a person, the harder it is to open ur mouth & share.

before den, when i dun share, i may still be working things out & trying to cope wif things myself. so gif mi space & time. i'll open out eventually. juz keep loving & supporting mi, k?

in a way, i'm glad i blog. i din realise tat frens haf been reading it faithfully & noes wat's going on. i now realise how lucky i am to haf so many ppl who's concerned abt mi. it's much easier to announce it tis way, i guess. and thanks for not asking mi for answers. Von & Pauline, u gave mi a "pleasant" surprise last wk by ur show of support. thanks!

i hope all my frens will always be happy & come to mi when they're ready. frens r for good times & even more for bad. frens do not judge. frens will support u & stand by u even if they can't help.

i make frens easily but it's been a 遗憾 tat i've lost contact wif so many close frens. there's sally from pri skool. kelly from jc & karen goh from work. mayb we're all too busy wif our lives to take the effort to stay in touch but whenever u r, my frens, i wish u happiness.

luckily, none of my 2C frens are missing in action. sometimes, they come & go but all of us are still pretty much in touch. 不要有异性没人性! haha!

of course, i haf also found some long lost frens from yahoo skoolfrens, ringo, plaxo & other tools. and tis blog wouldn't haf come abt without meeting up wif alan ( my 小学同学! )

My fav dish

brought marie the recipe book on step by step chinese cooking.

also took along my meal in a box recipe book to the office. it now has pride of place rite in front of mi. but i was so tempted by the pictures, i had to turn the book around. i like reading recipes & of course i love to eat. can't say i haf the same affinity for cooking though. i got the book coz it's got nice pictures & my fav dish - paella.

of course, the best paella i had was in sydney. went to via mar, the spanish restaurant at esplanade wif HQ but the food is onli acceptable, nuthing fantastic.

we went for yummy tom yam ramen at tinun.

the first time we ate there, the tom yam wasn't really tat spicy & i added dried chilli flakes to the soup. Tis time ard, the soup was much more spicy but we had oredi added generous sprinkling of dried chilli flakes...Oops!

we had lemon grass drink tat was very nice. juz a very slight hint of lemon grass but mostly sweet. reminds mi of bird nest drink.

due to enthusiasm abt taking fotos wif my fone, marie realised she left her fone in the office. after her past experience of her fone being 'nicked', she was very uneasy & called ppl in the office to help her keep the fone. as it was lunch time, it was onli after many tries tat she found someone still in the office. at least once she made sure her fone was safe, she could eat in peace.

tis shot was taken by the waitress but i tink not being nice. we concluded wif my fone, we could take self portraits instead. forgot to take pictures of the yummy but very spicy ramen. but pls enjoy tis pic of us before our food came. still looking very composed but actualli damn hungry liao. hehe

On Bluetooth

wanted to upload marie & mi's foto after lunch so bought tis bluetooth adaptor from keypoint tat somehow isn't working wif my fone. it detected 2 other nokia fones with bluetooth but not mine. den my fone detected the pc but had msg service not supported....wat the ???? tink i nid to pester shu'en to help mi fix it again. luckily i seeing him tonite. haha, wat r frens for, rite?

anyway, after all the frustration with the bluetooth thingy, my USB cable decided to work again! SIGH! and i bought the bluetooth adaptor in the first place becoz USB connection wasn't working. so now i got 2 choices, either change the adaptor for something else or juz live wif it. tink i need to consult someone more IT savvy den mi for advice. bluetooth useful anot? mayb when i forget to bring cable hor.

the title of tis posting is self explanatory.

anyway, besides admiring the pic, i wana mention tat the pair of us turned quite hp savvy as we discovered how to send fotos via IR from our fone. i noe some ppl will faint at hearing IR. i noe tat's beli outdated & IR is so unstable sometimes, but hey! we are not ur typical super hp savvy teenagers. even owning the latest hp do not mean we use or know how to use the latest features. haha

the baby husky reminds mi of Wyner. puppies are the most precious. so frail & adorable. and yesh, they all wince a lot, especially in the nite as confirmed by Marie. i tink i've misplaced Wyner's fotos. So sad. I love his sheepish look.

On losing weight

writing abt food at 5.30am in the morning is making mi hungry. will go back to bed now. how can eat at tis timing?? will become pig ah! anyway, i will definitely "concuss" tomolo if i dun return to bed. i was so tired i knocked out ard 11pm den got up at 4am.

juz realise my dinner diaries look like my phyto diaries hor!

hehe if anyone rems my short stint of weight loss regime. but really very effective. i haven't put on since stopping for the past 3 mths yet everyone says I look slimmer. YT can relate to tis too.we're so puzzled coz we not actively trying to lose weight at all. so the metabolism theory is really true. we need to "jump start" our bodies to bring up our metabolic rate. and when max told mi i need to eat more to lose weight, it really works! amazing!

but i really didn't lose much weight. mayb ard 3-5 kgs, at most. yet i am a lot slimmer, pants all too loose now. looks like my fat distribution has changed. yea!

unfortunately, i'm still stuck at size M but a bit loose size for my bottoms. went to southhaven sale tdy & nearly got size S pants. luckily i tried. does tat explain why my black "fresh" jeans feels loose but my fav People of Asia button fly jeans still a bit tight?? both size 27 leh

Funny Anecdote ( of my kids )

tis happened on mon nite.

just before qiqi's last milk feed of the day, i was carrying her in the kitchen & she spotted her jar of baby biscuits in the kitchen cupboard. as usual she started chanting "mum, mum". my mom said to gif her half a biscuit so she doesn't spoil her appetite for milk.

i took out half a biscuit but she refused it. she kept shaking her head & saying "mai" which means "don't want" in teochew. i thot mayb she doesn't like tis half of the biscuit so i offered her the "other half" of the biscuit. again, she refused to take it. she pointed to the rest of the "intact" biscuits instead. alas, she wanted a whole biscuit to herself.

tinking tat she muz be quite hungry, i gave her a whole biscuit instead.

she held the biscuit in her fist & munched away happily. but the best part is, halfway thru the biscuit, she decided she had enuff & passed the half eaten biscuit back to mi! Sigh!

Finally at my last blog for the nite. in case anyone is wondering why the images are so huge, well it's becoz blogger's image uploader sucks & doesn't work half the time so i'm resorting to photobucket tat works like magic. at least i can stop wasting precious sleep time at uploading fotos.

we had our fav baked rice at swensen's followed by an earthquake which got us shivering with cold.





we ended the nite wif our fav activity tat we haven't been doing tog for a while. NO, MJ is a wrong guess. we were at tampines so we popped over to KBox for some action.









halfway through the nite, after we have spent about 4 hours over dinner & songs, yvonne suddenly turned ard to mi & exclaimed tat I cut my hair. Apparently, i haven't met her for so long tat she last rems mi wif long hair. And becoz she's used to seeing mi wif short hair in the past, it didn't occur to her tat my long tresses are gone.

My new wedges

forgot to mention the new pair of wedges which i got on fri nite. Both HQ & i bought shoes from tis shop called Ticklebells at Marina Sq. Very nice paper bag tat they haf but shoes were pretty pricey. good thing they were having 40% sale though Ah Cai suspected the shop may be perpetually holding sale. well, i wouldn't be able to confirm till i visit them again.

Sat nite at the airport

after the much needed facials, YT, Richard & mi did a bit of shopping at PP. den it was time to fetch HQ & HJ to the airport. they were going for a 4D4N bangkok trip wif HQ's uni frens. after they checked in their luggage, we had din at sakae.

1st time facial at Coslab Marine Parade

YT & i went for facials at Coslab Marine Parade. First time i go there & i fell in love wif the place immediately. it's so leisurely to haf ur treatments there & quite convenient for us staying in the east. it was spring cleaning time ( 大扫除) as Cheryl puts it as I haven't gone for facials for a couple of mths now. Haven't seen Cheryl for so...long. she's oso using razr but in silver.

fri nite out

met up wif HQ & Ah Cai for din on fri.
HQ went to the bull run to check things out. went to SSC's toilet wif her when we picked up her car & saw tis really innovative recycling idea.

thanks to HQ & Ah Cai who turned on Chinese language input for mi, i can now blog in Chinese! We had yummy noodles for dinner at 面爱面. here're the fotos





Ah Cai & mi went on to catch Flight Plan which was very good. after the show, he went to 打包 from the Makansutra Glutton's Bay besides the Esplanade. I didn't noe tat haf so much good food there. making mi hungry juz writing abt it now. i took a shot of him there.

Of wireless technology

The mobilephonetools tat motorola provided for syncing my v3 wif the pc via usb has onli worked once.

since den, the min i click on multimedia studio to do pictures & sound files transfer, my fone will 'disconnect' from the laptop wif 'mobile not connected' error msg. tis is despite i un-installing & re-installing the software twice!

i decided to go wireless instead as i've got so many fotos i meant to upload. unfortunately my laptop doesn't haf bluetooth. luckily my bro's laptop does so everyone will get to see the fotos i've been snapping away happily for the past wk.

dunno if mp3 files can be sent via bluetooth too. will try tat coz i wana change my ring tone to my fav song 下一站天后

Surprise visitor

I guess if i sit in front of the laptop long enuff, i'll recall even more things tat i meant to write abt...lol

anyway, got a surprise visitor hoo brought mi a box of 'wife cakes' from wing fai. very pleased tat he thot of mi & kin hong & very touched by his gesture. his colleague said wing fai ordered him to bring us the 'wife cakes'. the thot tat came instantly to me was 'you peng zi yuan fang lah'. sorie, but my laptop can't write chinese & i downloaded the chinese input for office xp by mistake...argh! i miss NJ star!

went to coslab tdy & walked over to lim chee guan subsequently to get wing fai some barbequed pork. hope he'll like it. was tinking of buying from mei zhen xiang but marie reminded mi at HK oso haf mei zhen xiang. i didn't realise tat.

Our Short Trip

Suddenly remembered there's 1 other thing worth blogging about.

Yesh, we're going to haf another trip together. i noe it has been quite some time ( yrs, oops ) since our last expedition to Pulau Sibu but hey! nobody got time to arrange leh!

anyway, tis time we gers haf decided where & when to go. sent out an email to all abt the trip after lunch but so far only HJ has replied to count him out as he's in reservist. come'on, i didn't say apologies onli, did i?

i didn't mention tis in the mail but it's kinda hen's party for our dear ms wong who will tie the know on dec 10.

hope the rest of the guys will reply soon abt the trip. see, go to the trouble of arranging but nobody bother to even reply. sigh.

Of MS and company loyalty

Been blog surfing for the past 2 nites and came across the mini MS blog.

anyway, i enjoyed reading it coz i could sense tat the blogger's affiliation for the company & is hoping things will improve thru his 'complaining'. stong company loyalty is something i can relate to as i love the company i work at too.
been here since finishing skool & tat's 8 yrs ago. haf always felt tat tis will be the only company i work for. had a rough patch when i was 'impacted' AKA without a position during the recent re-organisation or growth transformation as my company puts it. but in the end, things worked out for the better & becoz of the way the situation was handled, i feel even more strongly for the company when i see ppl treated with dignity & respect in such circumstances.

as usual i'm digressing. i was going to say tat i had lunch wif 2 old frens, boon poh & kwok wai. sort of a farewell for boon poh who will be posted to another account by his company. sad to see him go as we have been colleagues for so many yrs. i almost forget tat he's actualli working for another company but stationed here.

the 2 guys were having training and wat a coincidence tat their trainer is from MS. he's the first MS employee i noe in S'pore. YT's bro is working for MS of course but he has always been based in US. well, to cut a long story short, i told him abt the mini MS blog. will try to gif him the link coz it will most prob make more sense to him den to mi.

well, i haf problems connecting my fone to the laptop now using usb cables. looks like i need the admin account to use the software.

Shakespeare in Love

Have always disliked Shakespeare since sec skool & i din even take E.Lit.

All tat I'm familiar was "I know not why I am so sad" from Merchant of Vernice tat i heard from my frens all the time.

Especially dislike Romeo & Juliet as I found the ending very dumb. The only bearable work was Macbeth. See, the violent streak in mi is showing.

Tat's until i caught my first R(A) show, Shakespeare in Love.

I was totally captivated by the story & the intense of the love & passion between the lovers as well as the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the love.

from den on, i am a converted fan & i even bought the screenplay of Shakespeare in Love & The Love Poetry of William Shakespeare.

The language is just so beautiful. This is truly the language of love.

went to bugis wif my mum yest to pray & bought a pretty pink dress from the revamped bugis village. lotsa interesting shops but all selling stuff for youngsters so didn't stay long else my mum may be bored.
